"Shepherd trio is the only ensemble of oboists in Russia ...
Christina Stepanova, founder and leader
The ensemble was founded in 2017 on the initiative of Christina Stepanova, who organized a duet with her classmate at the Moscow Conservatory Pyotr Stepanov. In collaboration with pianists and organists in 2017-2019, the duo held 28 concerts at prestigious venues in Moscow and in various cities of Russia, performing chamber works of the 18th-20th centuries with the participation of oboe, oboe d'amore, cor anglais.

In 2018, with the addition of another oboist, the musicians became the first ensemble in Russia to revive the classic trio of oboes, a type of ensemble that appeared in the 18th century and inspired works by composers such as Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Went, Franz Krommer.

The Shepherd trio is the only Russian performer of 18th century music for two oboes and English horn. This combination of timbres is one of the rarest instrumental compositions in the world, since playing the oboe requires great skill and the availability of expensive European instruments.

Concerts of the Shepherd trio were held at the Moscow International House of Music, in the Cathedral Patala of the Moscow Diocesan House; in the Murmansk, Krasnoyarsk, Perm, Trans-Baikal, Chuvash, Tomsk, Altai philharmonics, as well as at other prestigious concert venues in Russia. In July 2022, the classical trio of oboes gave 7 concerts at the Crazy Days in Yekaterinburg festival. In 2023, the release of the debut album of the ensemble, recorded at the Melodiya company, is expected, as well as the broadcast of the trio's recordings on the radio Orpheus.

The musicians see the meaning of their concert activities in the revival of the traditions of wind ensemble music-making in Russia, the popularization of wind instruments and the development of the national wind school. The ensemble strives to be competitive, competing in the art of a chamber ensemble with more familiar compositions - a string quartet, a piano trio.

The Shepherd trio includes students of outstanding masters of the Russian wind school, winners of prestigious music competitions.
